CD Photo Frame

"Did you get your precious photos?"
                                                                  (Blade Runner;1982)

My younger sister and I had got lots of various magazines with CD-ROMs when we were kids. But they took up a lot of space so I decided to put them in the CD sleeves. The empty jewel cases have been lying on the shelf for a long time, 'cause I thought they would be useful someday. And "someday" is today! I was thinking of transforming them into photo frames and realization came last week. Check it out - it's fast and easy!

difficulty:easy
estimated time:  20 -30 minutes

You need:
  • transparent CD box (a jewel case)
  • two paper CD sleeves with a transparent “window”
  • a sheet protector or a piece of food wrapping film
  • colorful paper napkin
  • scissors
  • double-sided tape
  • an iron

Tutorial steps:

1. Cut off the part of the CD sleeve with the window and then, remove the protective film.

2. Put the sleeves into the sheet protector (or cover them with the film)..

3. Cut out two squares of a napkin, slightly bigger than the sleeve and remove the white layers.

4. Heat the iron to maximum.

5. On a hard surface (I used a hard-covered book), put a piece of thin paper or a cotton pillowcase. Then put the CD sleeves in the protector (or covered with film) on it and place the napkins precisely above the sleeves. Put the next piece of paper or a pillowcase on it, but be careful not to move any of the layers.

6. Iron the whole surface for about 20 seconds to bind the layers together.

7. Take the first layer off and cut off the redundant part of the sheet protector. Then cut off the part of the napkin in the centre of the window. If it rolls up too much, you can stiffen it with a piece of construction paper.

8. Stick a piece of the double-sided tape on the edges of the frame and stick it to the outer side of the CD box. Do the same with the other part of the frame.  Put the photos in the box (like a CD cover) and your frame is ready.
