Kitty Hairband

"Everybody wants to be a cat.."

Recently, I have noticed a new trend among the teenagers interested in Japanese culture – cat's ears. They're supposed to be „kawaii” and adorable, but those I found are, for me, too fluffy and too extravagant so I decided to make simpler ones myself. They can be used as a hair decoration for teenagers, as an element of a costume for kids or an interesting addition to your sexy outfit. Once again the basic knowledge in crochet will be needed here (for the new readers – you can find very comprehensible tutorials for basic stitches in „A vernal hair accessory”).

Once again the basic knowledge in crochet will be needed here (for the new readers – you can find very comprehensible tutorials for basic stitches in >>A vernal hair accessory<<).

difficulty: easy (for those who can crochet)
estimated time: 20 minutes

You will need:
  • a crochet hook 2.5 mm
  • black wool (around 1.5 m)
  • thin black hairband without any decorations
  • a needle with a big eyelet

Tutorial steps:

1.  Make a chain of 16 and work the first two rows with single crochet, adding one chain stitch at the end of the rows for turning.

2.  Next rows work also with single crochet but don't make any additional chain stitch at the end of each row. Thanks to it you will have one less crochet to work in each row, so you will get a triangle. Repeat until you have only one stitch at the top. And that's how you make one ear. Make the other one the same way.

3. Saw the ears to the hairband (approximately 3.5 cm from the center of the hairband) using the needle and a piece of the wool – lead them around the band. Single crochet stitch is stiff and tight by it's nature, so the ears won't bend but if you're not satisfied with the effect you can stiffen them with a piece of a thin wire sawn along the edges of the ears.

That's all!
