Syringe Pen

Today's tutorial was inspired by a student from my uni, who has got a quite unusual pen - something like this. Upon closer inspection, it turned out it isn't what I expected - it just pretends to be a syringe, but in fact there is a normal ballpen inside it. But, it has inspired me to further experiments, which were succesful and ended with my new blog entry. I especially recommend this tutorial for medical students :)

estimated time: 5-7 minutes

You need:

• an empty syringe
• pliers
• an empty ballpen refill
• ink

Tutorial steps:

1. Using the pliers pull out the writing end of the refill.

2. Push it into the syringe. It is very important that the writing end of the pen is only slightly smaller than the end of the syringe – it should be difficult to insert it. Any misalignment can end up with blots or even gushing. If there is any leakage, you can seal the holes using some silicone glue. 

3. 3. Pour a little bit of ink into the syringe’s barrel (before you pour larger amount, be sure there aren’t any leaks) and insert the plunger. Now just write it out, pour some more ink and you can use it!
